Hindus, Mt. Everest and Yak Cheese

The time has come. After 1 1/2 months in China, we are finally in Nepal. Since we arrived 6 days ago we have been in love with this place! For one thing, they have cheese! (funny the things you miss) More than that, God’s creation here is absolutely amazing. We got to fly right by Mt. Everest on the way here. It was surreal. The people here are a breath of fresh air. They actually talk to you, and unlike the West, they have their minds set on the spirit realm. If you have ever thought that it must be hard to talk to people over here, let me tell you, you’re wrong! It’s so easy. What’s hard is talking to secular, apathetic, rich Americans. Talking with spiritually minded, poor Nepalese is easy.

For example, the third day that we were in Kathmandu we visited a Buddhist temple. We met a lady who was selling gods that she made (which came as a surprise to me, as I didn’t know a god could be made by human hands and I didn’t know that they could be sold). She invited us in to take a look. Wow, Jason started talking to her about Jesus, being the one true God, and she was all ears! We read to her the scripture that talks about the demon-possessed man of whom Jesus cast out the demons and sent into the pigs, and she was so excited to hear it that she asked us to write it out for her. We thought perhaps she meant the scripture reference, but no! She meant the entire passage! We stayed with her for roughly 45 minutes and clearly presented the gospel to her. We prayed with her and she willingly let us. Oh, how we wanted to her to see that He alone is powerful and He alone can save! Pray for her. We plan to visit her when we return to Kathmandu in 3 weeks.

Immediately after we left the temple, we went to get a bite to eat. We started talking to our waiter about the Lord. He was all ears as Jason told him about our Creator God who made the heavens and the earth, as well as us. We talked about Adam and Eve and how we originated from them. He said at the end of the conversation that he sensed we were good people. Jason corrected him and told him, “No, we are not good people. But we serve a good God. A very good God.”

Tomorrow we head out for the mountains (trekking) for 3 weeks, so there will be a pretty long period where you will not hear from us. Don’t worry! We’re fine. Please pray for us during these next three weeks, that we might have endurance, courage and faith. We will be visiting a few villages that Jason and David have been to before, and hope to do some teaching there. Pray for clarity when explaining the Scriptures and pray for the translator (Prem) as he helps us to communicate.

Sorry we don’t have pictures of Nepal yet, but we do have a few more of Xinjiang! We took a trip up into the mountains, and were able to see some unique Tajik culture (Tajikistan). Please take a look at the photos. There are only about 25, and they are at the end of the
